Llanelli Lifesaving & Surfing Club News
Llanelli Lifesaving & Surfing Club have around fifty members currently. There are 9 active trainers at the moment and 2 that have other commitments but will hopefully return soon. There is also a small committee that contains 5 people who work tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure all members are paying etc. The club train twice a week during the winter times on a Sunday 5-6pm and Thursday 7-8pm in Llanelli Leisure Centre.
The ages range from age 8 β 18 in terms of participants, but when competition time comes around the ages increase as some of the trainers like to compete so they get involved too. Once the training weekend has been in May, Sunday pool sessions are dropped and traded for a beach session at Cefn Sidan Beach, Pembrey where vital open water skills are taught as well as some fun in the waves.
Fairly recently, club member Jacob Williams was shortlisted in the Actif Sir Gar Sports Awards for Young Volunteer of the year. The results of that will be announced on the 8th of February at Llanelli’s Ffwrnes Theatre.
Over the last two years, Team Wales has had many members from Llanelli SLSC, from competitors to coaches, with 18 competitors over the last two years and some competing in both years too. In the last two years Team Wales has also won the RLSS UK national lifesaving Championships Regional cup.
