Councillor Takes A Swipe At Administration Before Joining Opposition

Carmarthenshire Councillor takes a swipe at the Councilā€™s administration before joining the Welsh Labour opposition.

The Welsh Labour Group in Carmarthenshire Council welcomed Dafen Councillor, Rob Evans, to their group after he criticized the Plaid Cymru-Independent coalitionā€™s handling of the City Deal and the impact of Council cuts on his local ward.

Cllr Rob Evans

Councillor Evans previously sat as an Independent Councillor, a member of the ruling coalition in Carmarthenshire Council.

Councillor Evansā€™ decision to join Welsh Labour takes the groupā€™s membership up to 23, with the largest number of Councillors in Llanelli since the creation of Carmarthenshire Council.

Dafen Councillor, Rob Evans stated:

“I am thrilled to be joining the Labour Group in Carmarthenshire Council.

“During my time as a Councillor in Dafen, it has become clear that this administration does not have the leadership, nor policies, to best support the residents of Dafen. My community has been hit hard with millions in cuts to local schools, with more planned this year, a reduction in Council services and a greater expectation on residents to pay more for less.

“The Plaid Cymru and Independent coalition have put the Ā£200m Llanelli Wellbeing project at risk, due to their ineptitude and I cannot stand by whilst this administration causes great harm to the future prosperity of Dafen.

“I honestly believe that becoming a member of the Labour Party will enable me to receive support fighting for greater investment in Dafen, tackling poverty and deprivation in the area and fighting unsuitable proposals, such as the proposed HMO for Nevilles Arms.”

Rob James – Labour Leader

Leader of the Opposition, Rob James stated:

“It is fantastic that Cllr Evans has recognised the work that the Labour Group has done in holding this coalition to account and has decided join our Group.

“Cllr Evans is an incredibly hardworking Councillor, with years of experience supporting local communities as a paramedic and I know he will continue to work in the best interests of Dafen with the support of the Labour Party.

“I look forward to working with Cllr Evans in the best interest of Dafen residents.”
