From 1 April 2019 Neath Port Talbot Council is to introduce a new, equality proofed pay and grading structure that will implement a new national pay spine and help to reduce the gender pay gap.
The Council has become one of the first local authorities in the UK to reach a collective agreement to implement the new national pay spine which is part of a two year pay deal that was agreed last year by the National Joint Council (NJC) for Local Government Services.
Councillor Doreen Jones, Cabinet Member for Corporate Services and Equality, said:
“As a result of our close working relationship with the trade unions, we are delighted to be one of the first local authorities in Wales to agree to implement the new pay spine.
“This is another step towards delivering on our vision of a county borough that is a better place for people to work, and where everyone has an equal chance to get on in life, as set out in ‘Shaping NPT’, our corporate plan.
“The agreement also demonstrates our commitment to providing equal opportunities for our employees.”
The new structure will eventually apply to all local government services employees in Wales, England and Northern Ireland.

Mae’r cyngor ymysg yr awdurdodau lleol cyntaf yn y DU i ddod i gytundeb ar y cyd i roi’r golofn gyflog genedlaethol newydd ar waith sy’n rhan o gytundeb tâl dwy flynedd y cytunwyd arno gan y Cyd-gyngor Cenedlaethol (NJC) ar gyfer Gwasanaethau Llywodraeth Leol.
Dywedodd Y Cynghorydd Doreen Jones, Aelod y Cabinet dros Wasanaethau Corfforaethol a Chydraddoldeb:
“O ganlyniad i’n perthynas waith agos gyda’r undebau llafur, rydym yn falch iawn o fod yn un o’r awdurdodau lleol cyntaf yng Nghymru i gytuno i roi’r golofn gyflog newydd ar waith.
“Mae hyn yn gam arall tuag at gyflwyno ein gweledigaeth o fwrdeistref sirol a fydd yn lle gwell i bobl weithio ynddo, a lle mae gan bawb gyfle cyfartal i ddatblygu mewn bywyd, fel a nodwyd yn ‘Llunio CNPT’, ein cynllun corfforaethol.
“Mae’r cytundeb hefyd yn dangos ein hymrwymiad i ddarparu cyfle cyfartal i’n holl weithwyr.”
Bydd y strwythur newydd yn berthnasol i’r holl weithwyr gwasanaethau llywodraeth leol yng Nghymru, Lloegr a Gogledd Iwerddon.
