Sexual predator given fresh jail term after 2016 conviction prompts further victim to come forward

A sexual predator has been handed an extra five years in prison after the abuser’s initial conviction prompted another victim to contact police.

Mark Richard Davis was jailed for 14 years in 2016 for a series of offences carried out against schoolboys in the 1980s and 1990s in Cardiff.

Following publicity surrounding that conviction, a further victim told police that Davis – who had worked as a children’s entertainer – had also abused him while he was a child.

Another painstaking investigation yesterday (Thursday, January the 31st) resulted in 58-year-old Davis being given an additional five-year sentence, to be served consecutively to his earlier jail term, for indecent assault and gross indecency offences.

Detective Constable Rhian Hellings, officer in the case said: “I’d like to pay tribute to those who have shown such immense courage by coming forward and help bring Mark Davis to justice for the litany of abuse he carried out.

“Davis was already serving a hefty prison sentence, and will now spend even longer behind bars for his cruel, depraved and predatory actions.

“Investigating sexual violence is a priority for South Wales Police and we always ensure appropriate victim support from the beginning of any investigation. We take reports of sexual abuse extremely seriously, no matter the circumstances or when it took place.

“I can only imagine how incredibly difficult it must be for victims to report crimes such as these, but we would encourage anyone who has been a victim to report it to us and know that you will be supported.

“Thanks to the bravery of Davis’ victims, he has now been brought to justice in respect of another series of crimes, and I hope this provides some comfort to those he abused.”
