Three police officers and a PCSO have been recognised for their brave and sensitive handling of a domestic incident that saved a man’s life.
In April 2018 they attended an address in a village in the Llanelli area after receiving a report of an on-going domestic incident.
The man involved in the incident made off when he saw police. Officers began a search for him and made contact with him via his phone but he refused to say where he was.
A while later he contacted his partner and made threats to harm himself while PCSO Jonathan Crayford and PC Fiona Hartley were with his partner.
PCSO Crayford immediately left the address to assist with the search. He found the man suspended from a tree. Temporary Sergeant Stuart Davies and PC Andrew Evans assisted PCSO Crayford in getting the man safely to the ground.
Throughout the search for the suspect PC Fiona Hartley was at home supporting the man’s partner.
Chief Constable Mark Collins said: “The exemplary actions of the team of officers undoubtedly saved the life of the suspect. I thank them for their sensitive handling of such a stressful incident.
“The Commendations and Certificates of Appreciation recognise the hard work and dedication of police officers, Police Community Police Community Support Officers, Special Constables, Police Staff and members of the public across the force area in protecting the public and safeguarding our communities.”
Temporary Sergeant Stuart Davies said: “We are all honoured to have received recognition for the roles we played in dealing with this incident, which was extremely distressing for all concerned. After the initial incident we remained in contact with the couple and made sure appropriate signposting and support was made available to them.”
The Dyfed-Powys Police commendations and presentation ceremony was held at Police Headquarters on Friday, January 25. The officers, staff and members of the public awarded at the ceremony were recognised for bravery, professionalism and a commitment to duty.
