PCSO Lauren Hopkins Recognised for Work with Youths

A Llanelli PCSO has been commended for her work in tackling youth-related anti-social behaviour in the Penyfan area of the town.

PCSO Lauren Hopkins was presented with her certificate at the Dyfed-Powys Police Commendations and Presentation Ceremony, held at police Headquarters on Friday, January 25.

PCSO Hopkins has worked closely with partner agencies, including Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, Carmarthenshire Council and Swansea Football Club to tackle the root of the problem that was causing young people in the area to behave in an anti-social way.

PCSO Hopkins said: “I was absolutely thrilled and honoured to receive a commendation for the multi-agency work that has been achieved in Pen-y-fan in reducing anti-social behaviour (ASB), however, it was truly a team effort.

“Working alongside colleagues, community groups, and lots of partner agencies has been key in reducing ASB. This will have a big impact on the lives of the people that were victims of ASB and it has provided young people a chance to engage in positive and focused activities.”

She has been pivotal in planning numerous events and diversionary activities for local youths to take part in. She also set up, in conjunction with the fire Service and Swansea City FC, engagement and activity days in Penyfan, which are continually well-attended.

Chief Constable Mark Collins said: “The Commendations and Certificates of Appreciation recognise the hard work and dedication of police officers, Police Community Police Community Support Officers, Special Constables, Police Staff and members of the public across the force area in protecting the public and safeguarding our communities.

“PCSO Hopkins has been committed to her role for over 16 years and has a first class work ethic. PCSO Hopkins is one of the original PCSO’s employed by Dyfed-Powys and continues to work to her best ability every day in delivering a high standard of service to her community.”

The Dyfed-Powys Police commendations and presentation ceremony was held at Police Headquarters on Friday, January 25. The officers, staff and members of the public awarded at the ceremony were recognised for bravery, professionalism and a commitment to duty.
