HEROIN FOUND ON LLANELLI MAN DURING CUSTODY SEARCH
A Llangennech man appeared at Llanelli Law Courts (February 7) via video link from HM Prison Swansea. He was accused of possession of the Class a drug heroin.
Jarreth Griffiths, age 30 of Llys Cennech, Llangennech Llanelli pleaded guilty to the charge put before him. The offence took place in Ammanford on August 4 of last year.
Prosecuting Sian Vaughan told the court that Griffiths was in police custody for a different matter when he was searched and the heroin was discovered. Officers retrieved 0.51grams of diamorphine. Full and frank admissions were made during police interview with a relevant previous conviction dating back to 2007.
Laura Sherwood representing explained that her client had his last conviction where he’d received a custodial sentence in February of last year. She added that the heroin was a small amount of low value and for Griffiths own personal use.
District Judge Christopher James gave full credit for an early guilty plea and commented that there had been a significant delay in the case with the defendant already being in police custody for different matters.
Griffiths was fined £120, he was ordered to pay court costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £30. A forfeit and destruction order was also put in place for the drugs.
