NEWS UPDATE
Police in Llanelli are urging parents to help them control ‘unruly youths’ in the town.
Since the beginning of January, police officers have had to deal with at least 30 incidents of teenagers causing issues – mainly antisocial behaviour and criminal damage to cars, in the Trostre and town centre areas of the town.
In an incident in January, a 16-year-old was arrested after a fight broke out in McDonalds. One of eight calls police have been received in connection to disorder at the restaurant in the past six weeks. The youths then became abusive to a police officer who had given warnings about their behaviour.
Local Inspector, Justin Evans, is holding parents to account and urging them to help improve the situation:
“I have growing concerns about the behaviour of groups of unruly youths who are causing issues in Llanelli.
“Their behaviour is distressing for the business community, residents of the town, and the officers who are dealing with the problems day in and out.”
Officers have been using powers to move people on and are working closely with schools to tackle the problem.
Inspector Evans continued:
“We are doing everything we can but it’s clear that some of the teenagers we are dealing with have no respect for authority or their community.”
Parents are urged to discuss concerns with the Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) or their School Community Police Officer.
