THEN AND NOW! – Poem by Tony Allender

THEN AND NOW!

Long ago Llanelli had a Pottery,
Founded by William Chambers and his mates,
They made some exquisite stuff there,
Also common jugs and plates.

We also had many beautiful places of worship.
Including one that actually had a spire,
But then one of the local idiots
Went and set Park Church on fire!

There was also a working docks,
One of South Wales’s important ports.
But now its lifeless, stagnant and stale,
Devoid of any ships, not even little boats.

But never mind, we have two Town Halls,
A proper one and another modern pretender,
I hope that we get rid of that horrible second one,
And cherish the original, the one of Edwardian splendour!
