His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, President of youth charityThe Prince’s Trust, today visited Ysgol Cwm Brombilin Port Talbot to meet students taking part in The Trust’s latest education programme; run in partnership with the school and The Prince’s Trust Cymru.

Earlier this morning, His Royal Highness met with staff and students involved with The Prince’s Trust Achieve programme as part of a full day of engagements across South Wales. The students gave a short demonstration of some remote-control cars they have been working on as part of the programme to develop their STEM and teamwork skills.

The Achieve programme, launched in 2016, provides a unique offering for 11 to 19year-olds, particularly those who are low in confidence or at risk of not reaching their full potential. The programme enables a practical approach to learning which supports young people to develop their skills and gain qualifications. Ysgol Cwm Brombil is one of 80 schools, colleges and Alternative Education Provisions (AEPs) across Wales that currently deliver the programme in partnership with The Prince’s Trust Cymru.

Two of the young people who met The Prince are year 10 students Ella Niner and Kaitlyn Davies, who are currently taking part in the school’s Achieve club.

Speaking at the visit, Ella said:“We are very honoured and lucky to have His Royal Highness visit us today, because it is a reward for all our hard work and effort we’ve put in so far this year. We feel very proud.”

Kaitlyn added: “Our experience on Achieve has given us some of the proudest moments in our lives. Our life skills have been greatly developed and we would like to thank Mr. Staton, our Prince’s Trust co-ordinator, for helping us along the way.”

Shaun Clarke, Head Teacher at Ysgol Cwm Brombil, said:“We feel privileged that The Prince of Wales chose to visit our school today to see Achieve in action. The Achieve programme is one of a number of initiatives we provide and is a valuable resource, particularly for our Year 10 and 11 students, as they seek to develop their personal skills and prepare for life after Ysgol Cwm Brombil.”

Philip Jones, Director of The Prince’s Trust Cymru, said:“We are thrilled to welcome our President, His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales to Port Talbot to meet this inspiring group of young people. Working in partnership with local schools and education providers like Ysgol Cwm Brombil, is vital to our mission of giving every young person in Wales the chance to succeed. We look forward to continuing this partnership to work with those in most need of support to reach their full potential.”

Later today, His Royal Highness will go on to visit Rock UK’s Summit Centre where he will meet further representatives from The Prince’s Trust Cymru as well as staff, young climbers and members of the local community.

The Prince’s Trust Cymru has supported over 3500 young people across Wales last year, with three out of four of those supported progressing into education, training or employment.
