£25,000 RAISED FOR PRINCE PHILIP HOSPITAL’S BREAST CARE UNIT

Amanda Harries and friends walk Ceredigion coastal path raising £25,000 for Peony Breast Care Unit at Prince Philip Hospital, Llanelli.

In October of 2015, Amanda was diagnosed with breast cancer and received treatment at the Prince Philip Hospital situated in Llanelli. To thank the unit and staff for their support, Amanda decided to organise a walk in Ceridigion and raise as much money as possible.

Amanda Harries told the West Wales Chronicle:
“People were extremely generous in contributing their time and donating money. Everyone pulled together on the day by supplying lifts to people, capturing photos, performing tasks and keeping each other in high spirits. The generosity of the sponsor money and donations was just remarkable.

“I’d like to extend my gratitude to the amazing Ceredigion Nurses plus Meinir Harries from Ysbyty Aberteifi for their fantastic donation.

“Also a big thank you goes to everyone who baked, prepared and donated food and drinks for the walk. It was delicious and made the day very, very special for everyone. We were spoilt with having such amazing food stops en route.

“Thank you to the small committee for their hard work in the run up and during the event as well as all of the businesses that donated goods, raffle prizes and services to us.”

At the beginning of February 2019, Amanda and her husband Marc and children Ela and Noa visited the Unit at Prince Philip Hospital to present a cheque to Saira Khawaja who is the Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon and Mr Holt.

Saira Khawaja Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon added:

“Thank you so much to Amanda for raising a huge amount of money for the Peony Breast Care Unit at the Prince Philip Hospital here in Llanelli. The money raised will be used to enhance the care provided for breast cancer patients within Hywel Dda University Health Board. This donation will ensure that patients, their families and staff can access a wide range of specialist services and equipment beyond what the NHS can currently provide. Thank you so much to Amanda and everyone who has supported her.”
