More than 40 campaigners from Pembrokeshire, St Clears and Carmarthen take part in the Put It To The People march.

Campaigners from across Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire travelled to London on Saturday 23^rd March, to join a mass demonstration to demand a People’s Vote on Brexit.

One million from across the UK took part in the People’s Vote “Put It To The People” march in central London.

People made their way to London from every corner of the country including Shetland and the Highlands of Scotland.

More than 200 coaches brought marchers into London. 23 coaches from Wales were booked.This is nine more than at last October’s march.

More than 500 people also travelled from south-west England on a specially chartered train.

Organisers of the march were been taken aback by the numbers of people who signed up for the demonstration from Leave-voting areas.  Coaches brought protestors from places including the Valleys, Wrexham, Stoke and Sunderland, which all voted to leave the EU in 2016.

One man, Edmund Sides, walked his way to the march from Swansea, and a team of cyclists rode their bikes all the way to London from Sheffield.

Many UK citizens living abroad also travelled home to take part in the march, from Australia, the US, Malaysia, Africa and hundreds from across the EU.

The government is still desperately trying to secure the backing of the UK Parliament for its failed Brexit plan and the mass demonstration in London took place just days before the UK was originally scheduled to leave to the European Union.

Young and old walked side by side, through the centre of London, including several generations of the same family, World War Two veterans in their 90s, families pushing buggies, grandparents, teenagers, students, office workers, celebrities and Members of Parliament.

Geraint Talfan Davies, Chair of Wales for Europe said: “We have had an astonishing response to this march from all over Wales, with many more coaches having to be booked than for last October’s event. This is a clear sign that support in Wales for our membership of the EU has grown sharply.

“As Parliament struggles for direction, The Put It To The People march will express an emphatic demand for a democratic final say on this mess, before it’s too late. This is High Noon for Brexit.

“If, as seems likely, the Prime Minister will this week seek an extension to the Article 50 period beyond 29 March, this march could well mark the start of a whole new phase of our campaign.

“Anyone who cares about the future, who feels betrayed by broken promises in the last referendum, and who can see the immense damage that Brexit will do to the Welsh economy, our NHS and already beleaguered communities, is welcome to join us to make their voice heard. We can stop this madness. It’s now or never,” he added.

“Brexit is already causing deep damage to Wales and the rest of the UK, threatening local jobs, businesses, the NHS and living standards in Pembrokeshire.

“The discredited Brexit deal, Theresa May is still trying to force on the UK Parliament, bears little resemblance to what was promised in the 2016 referendum.

“The only way to solve this political crisis is to put whatever deal is decided by Parliament back to the British people, alongside the option to remain in the European Union, and let them decide.”
