Kidwelly residents push to restore Parc Gwendraeth

Residents in Kidwelly have taken the first steps towards establishing an action group to keep up pressure to get the land behind Rhodfa’r Gwendraeth and Clos yr Onnen restored to a decent state.

At a meeting with Nia Griffith MP and Kidwelly Town Mayor Phil Thompson last Friday (the 22^nd of March), the residents adopted the name of Parc Gwendraeth Action Group and elected interim officers. The new group is keen to involve as many of those living in the immediate vicinity as possible, and will make sure that there is proper consultation with residents on any plans going forward.

The action group welcomed the news that Kidwelly Town Council will take over ownership of the land, once the current owners the Tycroes construction group have restored the land to a fit state, and it is understood that discussions about this are currently on-going. After this, the action group will look at how it might be enhanced and make the necessary grant applications.

The original planning conditions stipulated the provision of a park area, which the County Council were to have taken over. On hearing confirmation that the County no longer intends to take over ownership, Kidwelly Town Council has heeded calls from local residents and supported a proposal by Cllr Philip Thompson to step in and resolve the problem of ownership and responsibility.

“For far too long residents have had to put up with an unsightly mess bordering on to their gardens, so I very much welcome the decision by Kidwelly Town Council to start the negotiation with the Tycroes Group.

“I am very grateful to residents for coming forward to take a lead on ensuring future plans reflect the wishes of householders around the area in question.”
