Achievements of Friends of South Pembrokeshire Hospital celebrated

A special tea party has been held to celebrate the achievements of the Friends of South Pembrokeshire Hospital following the announcement that the charity will close later this year.

Since 2005, the Friends of South Pembrokeshire Hospital have raised over £140,000 which has directly benefited patients.

Elaine Lorton, County Director for Pembrokeshire and Councillor Simon Hancock, Independent member of Hywel Dda University Health Board thanked the group for their fundraising and support over the years at the thank you tea party.

Elaine Lorton, Pembrokeshire County Director at Hywel Dda UHB, added:

“The Friends of South Pembrokeshire Hospital have given of their time, enthusiasm and passion since 2005 and it is sad that they have had to wind up their work, but we know we have friends for life who we hope to continue to talk to on how best to use their legacy and grow future opportunities for volunteering and community support to the Hospital.

“I would like to offer sincere thanks them on behalf of Hywel Dda Health Board and the patients who have passed through South Pembrokeshire’s doors.”

Friends of South Pembrokeshire Hospital said:

“It is with a sad heart that the Friends of South Pembrokeshire Hospital have to announce the closure of their charity at the end of this year.

“The charity was started in 2005 by Sue Paterson-Jones. Our aim has always been to purchase through our fundraising and donations, items which the hospital budget cannot afford and which would help make the patients’ lives a lot more comfortable.

“Items that we have purchased include: new televisions in all wards and side rooms, specialist mattresses, wheelchairs for rehabilitation, blood pressure monitors, specialist equipment for the wards and the day centre and even a greenhouse as well as much, much more. Over the last 14 years we have raised in excess of £140,000.”

Friends of South Pembrokeshire Hospital have donated the remaining £37,209.04 to South Pembrokeshire Hospital as they call it a day on their successful fundraising campaign.
