Little feet can make a big difference this June as Barnardo’s Big Toddle returns to raise money for vulnerable children

Children, families and nurseries are being called on to put their best foot forward for Barnardo’s in the charity’s Big Toddle, an event first dreamt up by fundraisers in Wales more than 20 years ago.

Last year’s Barnardo’s Big Toddle saw thousands of under-fives take part in short, sponsored “toddles” across Britain and they raised £231,512 for the UK’s largest children’s charity.

The original idea came from the Porthcawl Barnardo’s Helpers’ Group who staged the first event on the promenade more than 20 years ago. The tradition has been continued in the last couple of years by mum-of-two Celyn Astrauskas who has organised local families and nurseries for a toddle along the promenade.

The charity, which supports more than 301,000 children, young people, parents and carers across the UK, is now once again calling for children to join in the fun as Big Toddle Week returns for the week of June the 24th to 30th with an animal theme.

There are lots of opportunities for creative dressing up and exclusive animal-themed early years learning resources available to those who register.

Parents, carers and nurseries are encouraged to hold their very own Big Toddles to help raise money for Barnardo’s; this could involve a community Big Toddle, one for families and friends or one organised by nurseries or primary schools.

Sarah Crawley, Director of Barnardo’s Cymru said:

“The Big Toddle is a great opportunity for the under-5s to have fun with their friends and families and raise money to help vulnerable children.

“We are really grateful for everyone taking part as the money raised helps our vital services continue to support thousands of vulnerable children, young people, parents and carers in Wales.”

Those who register by May the 20th will receive a Big Toddle pack containing information and fundraising ideas.
