The Llanelli and Mynydd Mawr Railway held a successful gala to celebrate 20 years since the new charity to reopen the line was set up on 30th March 2019.  The date also coincided with 30 years since the last shift at Cynheidre Colliery, the site of which is now occupied by the railway. Over one hundred visitors attended and highlights included:

  • Train rides behind Netherlands Railways class 600 diesel No. 690 and Sentinel diesel 10222 over an extended running line. The running line is now nearly 1/3 mile in length, with a further stretch likely to be opened later in the year
  • Static display of our new locomotive, local celebrity 08 shunter No. 08 795 recently transferred from Landore depot in Swansea and now permanently preserved at the L&MMR. We hope to launch this into service at a further enthusiast day later in the year
  • Opportunities to view the rest of the railways fleet which is under restoration on site
  • A guided Nature trail

The railway is next open on Saturday 27th April when we will be holding a seasonal family fun day at Cynheidre with plenty going on to entertain the whole family.
