Welsh international Ben Davies may only be 25 years of age but even at his relatively junior years when it comes to a footballerâs career, the Tottenham defender has already earned the tag of âMr Dependableâ for both club and country.
Considered one of Mauricio Pochettinoâs inner circle when it comes to squad selection, he is undoubtedly a player that Tottenhamâs Argentine manager can thrown into battle when necessary and this is something that happens with much regularity in North London.
While of course, Davies is also considered one of Walesâ international leading lights and this is none more evident than just a couple of weeks ago, when he was awarded the Media Choice Award at the 2019 FAW awards.
An accolade that just goes to show just how highly rated the former Swansea defender is rated by both backroom staff and pundits alike in this country and although the respect of your peers is welcome, it is no secret that Davies wants to earn club accoladeâs in the not too distant future.
Tottenham have had a relatively successful season, what with qualification to the last eight of the Champions League and a potential return to Europeâs premier club competition next season, if they secure a top four domestic finish.
Of course, thatâs not to say that they cannot be kings of the continent either and if that were to be the case, then it would only go on to increase the standing of a defender who has added an element of versatility to game this season.
With his current club having the flexibility to switch between a back three or four from week to week and sometimes from game to game, it means that Tottenhamâs number 33 has been deployed in a number of positions as of late.
It is clear to football fans that Daviesâ preferred position is that of left back and this is something thatâs apparent when he is marauding up and down the wing while supporting the likes of teammates Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen.
However, he has also earned his stripes for club and country as a left sided centre back and it could well be this position that goes on to suit him better, in what will be the peak years of what has already been an impressive career.
A career that could go on to reach even further heights if and when he finally picks up a winners medal at Tottenham and with them knocking on the door of success these past few years, you do get the feeling that it wonât be long until this dream becomes a reality.
Not many would argue with the fact that Tottenham deserve to win something with their current squad, it would almost be a criminal waste of talent if they didnât and by extension Ben Davies would be disappointed not to have something to look back on when he retires.
However, the day that Davies hangs up his boots is still a very long way off and with plenty of football on the horizon between now and them, you would have to imagine that club level success is not all that far away.
