Hywel Dda University Health Board’s Paediatric Palliative Care Play Service has received a £4,000 top prize cash award from the Tesco community funding scheme Bags of Help.

Our Paediatric Palliative Care team cares for and supports children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses and their families across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire from the point of diagnosis through to the time of death and bereavement.

Our Play Service plays a fundamental role in helping children and young people who require palliative or end-of-life care, and their families, to cope with illness and treatment using a range of therapeutic play based interventions.

Dawn Thomas, Paediatric Palliative Play Specialist said:

“Thank you to Tesco and everyone who voted for the Paediatric Palliative Play Service through the Tesco Bags of Help scheme. Our aim is to create positive memories for the child, young person and their family and improve their quality of life and experiences.

We, as a team are always looking for ways to enhance the shortened lives of children and young people that we care for and we would like to thank everyone for their tremendous support and generosity.

The money received will support a range of initiatives to expand therapeutic play activities and the palliative care provided to the children, young people and their families at home, in hospital and in the community.”
