‘That was Then’ saw students perform routines and songs that traced the rich history of the school from its inception in 1918 by JA Gibbs to its present day independent special school status.

Parents, staff and guests were invited to the show as the school continued their 100 events to mark their centenary.

Head Mr Burns addresses audience post show

Headlands Principal, Matt Burns, said: ‘Putting on a theatre show to mark our incredible history as we celebrate our centenary is very fitting and in the spirit of those who set up Headlands in the first place. Our students are so creative and engaged and once again they put on a striking, funny and poignant show. Their shows are always incredible and sum up the spirit of the school and all we’re trying to achieve here. Congratulations to Elisha and all the students for a brilliant effort.’

Headlands School is an independent special school that offers day and residential placements for boys and girls aged 7 to 19 who have difficulty learning as a result of complex emotional and social issues, Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC) and Asperger’s Syndrome.

Drama and dance teacher, Elisha Allen-Cope, said: ‘The students respond so well in drama classes and love to get involved. They were a joy to work with and took the historical aspect of their school very seriously. The result was a really entertaining show that everyone enjoyed so well done to them all.’
