OUR WORLD – Poem by Tony Allender

OUR WORLD

I was chatting to my granddaughter,
And as she sat upon my knee,
She said ‘Bampi tell me of the things
That I’ll never be able to see!’

‘Is it true there were giant whales
That swam with such a graceful motion.
And they were killed by plastic waste
That polluted every sea and ocean!’

‘Did elephants and rhinoceros really exist
Outside of  menageries and zoos?
Oh Bampi whatever can we do
Before other animals we will lose!’

‘Did you really have a blackbird singing
On top of your garden shed?
Tell me why please Bampi dear
That all these creatures are dead!’

‘Do you know that I’ve never seen
A squirrel in the wild, nor a little rabbit!
Bampi is it too late to save what’s left
On this earth, this world that we inhabit?’

Its not too late, I told this innocent child
If the politicians could only agree,
To do what they were elected for,
And end their destructive spree!
