Neil Hamilton, AM for Mid & West Wales and Leader of UKIP Wales, has pledged his continued support in the fight against cancer.
Mr Hamilton, Party spokesman for Culture and a member of the Assembly’s health committee, was speaking after attending the annual reception for the Cross Party Group on Cancer.
Mr Hamilton said:
“I am very aware of the need to find more money to fight this dreadful disease, in all its guises, and fully support any moves to highlight the problem.
“I welcomed the opportunity of meeting constituents who are suffering from cancer and to hear first-hand about their various experiences.
“I share their concerns, especially over the importance of early screening which can be vital. I am particularly aware of the lack of adequate facilities in some of the remoter parts of Mid & West Wales and of the discrepancy between care in rural Wales and that offered in cities like Cardiff. Cancer is no respecter of geography and it is very difficult for people who have to travel long distances for regular treatment and therapy.
“I remain committed to increasing awareness of all types of cancer and would urge anyone who is worried that something is wrong, to visit their GP to get themselves checked.”
The Cross Party Group on Cancer’s annual reception brought together Assembly Members, and constituents, to talk about their experiences of cancer.
Cancer charities in Wales and medical professionals were also on hand to talk about their work.
