The Chairman of Pembrokeshire County Council visited the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority’s Llanion Park headquarters on Wednesday 1 May as his term of office reached its end.

Cllr Aden Brinn, who is a Hon. Life Member of the Welsh Guards, received a tour from local history expert and former caretaker of the building Brian Pratt, who detailed the building’s history, from its military beginnings to the present day.

This included information on the British Army’s long association with Llanion, as well as the US Army’s presence at the former barracks during the Second World War.

National Park Authority Chair Gwyneth Hayward said: “We were delighted to welcome Cllr Brinn and give him an insight into the important role this building played in Pembroke Dock’s rich military history.

“We were also able to show him the many ways this building has been adapted to harness renewable energy sources in order to make it as energy efficient as possible.”

The former Officers’ Mess building, which became the headquarters of the National Park Authority in 2004, was also home to the South Pembrokeshire District Council until the mid-1990s.

Councillor Brinn said afterwards: “I’m very grateful to everyone at the National Park Authority for their hospitality. The building in which the Authority is housed boasts a fascinating history and this was truly brought to life during Brian’s tour.”

Taith i Gadeirydd y Cyngor Sir o amgylch pencadlys Awdurdod y Parc

Fe wnaeth Cadeirydd Cyngor Sir Penfro ymweld â phencadlys Awdurdod Parc Cenedlaethol Arfordir Penfro ym Mharc Llanion ddydd Mercher 1 Mai wrth i’w gyfnod yn y swydd ddirwyn i ben.

Mae’r Cyng. Aden Brinn yn Aelod Anrhydeddus am oes o’r Gwarchodlu Cymreig, a chafodd daith gan yr arbenigwr ar hanes lleol a chyn-ofalwr yr adeilad, Brian Pratt, a fu’n sôn am hanes yr adeilad, o’i orffennol milwrol hyd at heddiw.

Roedd hyn yn cynnwys gwybodaeth am gysylltiad hir y Fyddin Brydeinig â Llanion, yn ogystal â phresenoldeb Byddin yr UDA yn yr hen farics yn ystod yr Ail Ryfel Byd.

Dywedodd Gwyneth Hayward, Cadeirydd Awdurdod y Parc Cenedlaethol: “Roedd yn bleser gennym groesawu’r Cyng. Brinn a rhoi gwybod iddo am gyfraniad pwysig yr adeilad hwn i hanes milwrol cyfoethog Doc Penfro.

“Roeddem hefyd yn gallu dangos iddo sut mae’r adeilad wedi cael ei addasu i ddefnyddio ffynonellau ynni adnewyddadwy er mwyn arbed cymaint o ynni â phosibl.

Daeth hen adeilad Ystafell Fwyta’r Swyddogion yn gartref i bencadlys Awdurdod y Parc Cenedlaethol yn 2004, a bu hefyd yn gartref i Gyngor Dosbarth De Sir Benfro tan ganol yr 1990au.

Ar ôl y daith, dywedodd y Cyng. Brinn: “Rwy’n hynod ddiolchgar i bawb yn Awdurdod y Parc Cenedlaethol am eu croeso. Mae hanes difyr i adeilad yr Awdurdod a daethpwyd â’r cyfan yn fyw yn ystod taith Brian.”
