Showcasing a rockier edge to the duos sound, âBoom Boom Boomâ features retro production alongside futuristic guitar work from Dweezil Zappa, who reached out to the band over Instagram to express his appreciation for their music. On the juxtaposition of sonic eras and impressive guitar work Chris comments, âexperimenting with guitar tones was a way for us to offset the traditional roots nature of a lot of the music we were recording.â
To celebrate the release of their debut album, Ida Mae will headline The Kings Head on July 11th. As well as supporting Greta Van Fleet on their summer US tour, the duo will also play Black Deer Festival on Friday 21st June. Tickets for the album launch on sale Friday 10th May from See Tickets.

âChasing Lightsâ was helped to become the masterpiece it is with the guidance of legendary producer Ethan Johns (Ray LaMontagne, Laura Marling, Kings of Leon). The duoâs natural chemistry proved to be an ideal fit for Johnsâ minimalist approach to production. âEthan records live and very quickly,â explains Turpin. âHe loves the naĂŻve discovery of early takes. It could be terrifying at times, but we always trusted his judgment.â
Blending elements of vintage Delta blues and gritty rock and roll with boldly modern arrangements and fearless punk swagger, âChasing Lightsâ captures Ida Mae in its purest form. From the pulsating âHigher Than Lightâ to the Beat poet-inspired âMy Girl Is A Heartbreakâ, âChasing Lightsâ is an impressive eclectic debut. Singing together, the couple have an unusual âwhich-is-whichâ dynamic.
