It’s been a while since I last had a chance to write this blog, but a lot has been happening at Pure Framing.
As well as helping a lot of people display their favourite pictures so that they can get years of enjoyment out of them, I have also been able to indulge in my own passion for original art which I am to privileged to say keeps passing through my framing workshop. I have been framing the work of a lot of exciting 20th Century Welsh in the last few months including Ceri Richards, Eric Malthouse and Josef Herman as well as the St Ives artist Terry Frost. I have also had a J S Lowry drawing in for conservation framing in the last couple of weeks.
I was also delighted to be selected as a finalist with my entry for the Fine Art Trade Guild “Best Hand Cut Mount Design” competition this year – no mean feat as membership of the Guild includes some of the best picture framers in the UK.
I recently met a new and exciting artist Linda Ellis when she came in to have her latest work framed for her up-coming show in the Oriel Bevan Jones Gallery in Carmarthen. I was curious about how she got started.
“My artistic career has been an ongoing passion and lifetime in the making. From designing and crafting jewellery, stitched textiles, creating gardens and having a successful gallery in Cornwall, I moved to South West Wales three years ago and now, truly exploring my painterly soul”.
I asked her to tell me a bit about this exhibition as well.
“My latest work is entitled ‘Tracing the Ancestors’. These paintings are inspired by my interest in the peoples who travelled the lands generations ago – the Aborigines, Native American Indians, Celts, and Egyptians. On Watercolour or Yupo paper these abstracts are painted in Indian, acrylic and alcohol inks with detailed linework and drawings in graphite and fineliner pens exploring the pathways, settlements and ancient art influences.”
You can catch Linda’s show at the Oriel Bevan Jones Gallery, 24 King Street, Carmarthen, SA31 1BS from the 27th May to 29th June and having seen her work, I can highly recommend a visit.
As always, if you have any questions about picture framing, or if you would like me to help you get the best out of a picture you want to display, I am very happy to help you. You can find my contact details on www.pureframing.co.uk
