Dear Sirs,
On behalf of the Pembrokeshire Liberal Democrats, I write to thank the voters of Pembrokeshire for voting Liberal Democrat in the European Parliament election on Thursday 23rd May. It gave me great pleasure to see that the voters of Pembrokeshire were prepared to put their trust in us. Thank you.
4408 votes were cast for the Liberal Democrats and we missed out on the 4th seat by just a few thousand votes, under the voting system used. The irony being that we came in 3rd place behind The Brexit Party Limited and Plaid Cymru. Labour came 4th, with the Conservatives in 5th.
The Liberal Democrats had a good campaign and I must thank Sam Bennett, Donna Lalek, Alistair Cameron and Andrew Parkhurst for being our excellent candidates.
In recent elections in Pembrokeshire, we only got around 2% of the vote, so it is very reassuring that our controversial B******s to Brexit slogan made it very clear where we stood on the issue of Brexit. So I am proud to know that our message resonated with so many voters in the county and that we are back.
We already have our Parliamentary candidates in place. Tom Hughes in Preseli Pembrokeshire, and Alistair Cameron for Carmarthen West & South Pembrokeshire. We have been rebuilding and I know they will be out campaigning across Pembrokeshire as we prepare for the next General Election which could come as soon as this Autumn according to some pundits.
I had the pleasure of being our party’s Sub-Agent in Pembrokeshire and it gave me great satisfaction to see us beat both Labour and the Conservatives. If anyone would like to join us as we continue to campaign for a People’s Vote, please contact me at andrew.lye@pembslibdems.wales. We continue to speak out clearly that the best deal we have is to with the EU. Leaving the EU will do countless damage to jobs, the economy and people’s livelihoods.
Yours faithfully,
Andrew Lye
Chair – Pembrokeshire Liberal Democrats
