STATEMENT
In response to the Which? analysis that shows that Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire is in the top 3 hardest hit constituencies for bank closures, Eluned Morgan AM said:
“These figures reveal the true extent of how the banking industry has turned its back on rural Wales with 12 bank branches closing locally.
In developing my own rural economic plan, I heard first-hand the impacts of bank closures on our small towns in Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire. That is why I am pleased First Minister Mark Drakeford, in delivering on his leadership pledge, has enabled the Welsh Government to work up plans for a Community Bank in Wales. Whilst plans are at an early stage, there is a clear determination to improve access to cash and banking services in all parts of our country to meet the expectations of local residents and small businesses alike.”
