35 new acts added to Sŵn festival line-up.

Cardiff’s award-winning festival, Sŵn, has announced a further 35 acts to its already legendary line-up. The three-day festival takes place 18-20 October across multiple venues in the music capital of Wales.

This second wave of announcements includes big names such as Rosie Lowe, Tom Ravenscroft, Squid and Charlotte Adigéry, who are joining the likes of Twin Peaks,Gruff Rhys and NilüferYanya.

Fresh off the back of her second album – YU – Rosie Lowe is making several appearances across the festival circuit this year. A singer, song writer and multi-instrumentalist, her experimental sound is hard to pin to a specific genre. None the less, the embodiment of funky blues, smooth synths and soulful lyrics is bound to move you in all kinds of ways.

After being included in NME’s ‘100 essential new artists for 2019’, Squid have risen in the ranks with their off the hinge post-punk. Although loud and heavy, with frontman Ollie’s ear blistering roar, there’s something fun and endearing about the band’s spontaneity in creating music.

Known to never disappoint with their iconic live performances, The Murder Capital are not to be missed. Having already carved a place for themselves following the release of their second single Green & Blue, they’re currently cooking up a debut album which is set to propel them even further towards success.

Radio 6DJ, Tom Ravenscroft never shies away from bringing us the greatest jewels in music. Sŵn welcome his eclectic and far reaching taste for a DJ set filled with global sounds.Old and new, some familiar and some not so much, the soundshe brings all have one thing in common; they’ve been vetted by the man himself, so you’re guaranteed a great time.

London trio, Big Joanie will also join the Sŵn line-up with their pulse-racing feminist punk. Amongst moody lyrics and raw guitar riffs, their recent debut album SISTAHS outlines their political standpoint quite clearly; to carve a path for black punks in the overwhelmingly white and male punk scene.

Belgian-Caribbean artist, Charlotte Adigéry is another woman with a heavy-hitting, impossible to place kind of sound. Her mixed heritage echoes through loud, hyperactive electro pop with a raw punk edge. Imaginative stories form the basis of her lyrics, as she covers topics concerning afro care and wigs whilst incorporating her native languages.

All the way from Washington, Chastity Belt embrace a relatable post-punk misery and express a collective feeling of inadequacy through witty lyrics. However, they’re anything but serious, breaking down boundaries with their raw and playful approach.

Ready to take you to a hypnotic place, Fatherson are jumping on board to bring a cathartic perspective to the line-up following their most experimental album yet. Having worked their way around the music circuit, these guys are now selling out shows across the UK. Expect youthful energy, storming rock and some lovely Scottish accents.
