Pembrokeshire Coast project in exciting UK partnership launch

Five of the UK’s National Parks, including the Pembrokeshire Coast, are running major conservation projects as part of an exciting new partnership launched this week between the National Parks and Clif Bar.

These projects, under the new National Parks Protectors Fund, are funded by Clif Bar, which has a long history of supporting environmental schemes in the USA and Canada. However, this is the first time the company – which sells a range of energy bars for active lifestyles – has worked in the UK.

In the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park the pilot project – entitled ‘Paths, Pollinators and People’ which involves the creation of a new Pollinator Warden role, aims to enhance the biodiversity alongside a lengthy section of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, from Newgale to Abereiddi.

This project is the first step towards a longer-term aim of maintaining the Pembrokeshire Coast Path in a way that improves biodiversity and wildlife interest for visitors, whilst at the same time ensuring its quality as a National Trail.

The Pembrokeshire Coast is the only Welsh National Park to have a Clif Bar supported project but all 15 UK Parks will benefit. Those not running a special project will receive a smaller grant to support their choice of conservation work during the year.

Tegryn Jones, Chief Executive of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, said: “The Pembrokeshire Coast Path is one of the world’s finest long-distance walking routes, attracting one million visitors every year. The support of Clif Bar will make a vital contribution to improving the biodiversity of such an iconic stretch of the Coast Path.”

Prosiect Arfordir Penfro mewn lansiad partneriaeth cyffrous

 Mae pump o Barciau Cenedlaethol y Deyrnas Unedig, yn cynnwys Arfordir Penfro, yn cynnal prosiectau cadwraeth cyffrous fel rhan o bartneriaeth newydd gyffrous a lansiwyd yr wythnos hon rhwng y Parciau Cenedlaethol a Clif Bar.

Mae’r prosiectau hyn, o dan Gronfa Amddiffynwyr newydd y Parciau Cenedlaethol, yn cael eu hariannu gan Clif Bar, sydd â hanes hir o gefnogi cynlluniau amgylcheddol yn yr Unol Daleithiau a Chanada. Fodd bynnag, dyma’r tro cyntaf y mae’r cwmni – sy’n gwerthu amryw o farrau egni ar gyfer ffyrdd egnïol o fyw – wedi gweithio yn y DU.

Ym Mharc Cenedlaethol Arfordir Penfro, nod y prosiect peilot – o dan y teitl ‘Llwybrau, Peillwyr a Phobl’, sy’n cynnwys creu rôl newydd i Warden Peillwyr – yw cynyddu bioamrywiaeth ar hyd darn hir o Lwybr Arfordir Penfro, o Niwgwl i Abereiddi.

Y prosiect hwn yw’r cam cyntaf tuag at nod tymor hwy o gynnal a chadw Llwybr Arfordir Penfro mewn ffordd sy’n gwella bioamrywiaeth a’r diddordeb o ran bywyd gwyllt i ymwelwyr. Ar yr un pryd, bydd yn sicrhau bod ansawdd y llwybr fel Llwybr Cenedlaethol yn cael ei gynnal.

Arfordir Penfro yw’r unig Barc Cenedlaethol yn Nghymru sydd â phrosiect a noddir gan Clif Bar, ond bydd y 15 Parc yn y DU yn elwa. Bydd y rhai nad ydyn nhw’n rhedeg prosiect arbennig yn cael grant llai i gefnogi gwaith cadwraeth o’u dewis nhw yn ystod y flwyddyn.

Dywedodd Tegryn Jones, Prif Weithredwr Parc Cenedlaethol Arfordir Penfro: “Llwybr Arfordir Penfro yw un o lwybrau cerdded hir gorau’r byd, yn denu miliwn o ymwelwyr bob blwyddyn. Bydd cefnogaeth Clif Bar yn gyfraniad hollbwysig tuag at wella bioamrywiaeth darn mor eiconig o Lwybr yr Arfordir.”

Dywedodd Catherine Hawkins, Cadeirydd Partneriaethau’r Parciau Cenedlaethol: “Mae Clif Bar yn bwrw iddi o ddifrif i helpu Parciau Cenedlaethol y DU i amddiffyn a chadw eu tirweddau gwerthfawr. Mae’r Parciau Cenedlaethol yn gweithio gydol y flwyddyn ar brosiectau sy’n amddiffyn a chadw cynefinoedd a bywyd gwyllt pwysig. Ond gyda chymaint o waith i’w wneud, mae angen cefnogaeth partneriaid fel Clif Bar arnom i helpu i amddiffyn y tirweddau hyn yn awr ac i’r dyfodol.”
