‘How can agriculture contribute to achieving the target of a million Welsh speakers by 2050?’/‘Sut all amaethyddiaeth gyfrannu tuag at gyrraedd y targed o filiwn o siaradwyr Cymraeg erbyn 2050?’

This is the question we will be asking during a series of meetings to be held by Farming Connect across Wales over the coming weeks.

“The strong link between the Welsh language and agriculture is familiar to many of us. The Welsh language is very prominent in agriculture, therefore,” said Eirwen Williams, Director at Menter a Busnes, which is responsible for arranging these events.

“Therefore, we are looking for ways in which we can build on this and increase the number of Welsh speakers in order to achieve the target of a million speakers by 2050. In our experience, there are plenty of ideas within the agriculture industry, so we are keen to gather thoughts and opinions, and we need to speak to farming families in order to find solutions.”

Each event will follow on from each other, with key points from the first meeting being carried forward to the next, and so on.

Alongside these events, the ‘Agri Booth’ will attend some of the agricultural shows this summer, including the Royal Welsh and the National Eisteddfod, where people will have the opportunity to step into the Booth to give their suggestions. The comments will be filmed and all responses will be summarised and analysed.

Dyma’r cwestiwn fydd yn cael ei ofyn mewn cyfres o gyfarfodydd sy’n cael eu trefnu ar draws Cymru yn ystod yr wythnosau nesaf gan Cyswllt Ffermio.

 “Mae’r cyswllt cryf sy’n bodoli rhwng yr iaith Gymraeg ag amaeth yn gyfarwydd i lawer iawn ohonom ni, mae gan yr iaith Gymraeg bresenoldeb amlwg o fewn amaethyddiaeth,” meddai Eirwen Williams, Cyfarwyddwr yng nghwmni Menter a Busnes sy’n gyfrifol am drefnu’r digwyddiadau yma.

“Felly rydym am edrych i weld sut allwn ni adeiladu ar hyn, a chynyddu nifer y siaradwyr er mwyn cyrraedd y targed o filiwn o siaradwyr Cymraeg erbyn 2050.  O’n profiad ni, mae digonedd o syniadau gan y diwydiant amaeth, felly rydyn ni’n awyddus i gasglu barn, ac mae angen i ni siarad â theuluoedd amaeth er mwyn dod o hyd i atebion.”

Bydd y cyfarfodydd yn cael eu rhedeg ar ffurf caseg eira, lle bydd y prif bwyntiau o’r cyfarfod cyntaf yn cael eu cario i’r cyfarfod nesaf, ac yn y blaen.

Ochr yn ochr â’r cyfarfodydd hyn bydd y ‘Bŵth Amaeth’ yn mynychu rhai o sioeau amaethyddol yr haf gan gynnwys y Sioe Fawr a’r Eisteddfod Genedlaethol lle bydd cyfle i bobl i fynd i mewn i’r Bŵth i gynnig eu syniadau. Bydd y sylwadau yn cael eu ffilmio a bydd yr holl ymatebion yn cael eu crynhoi a’u dadansoddi.
