Colin Whiting, HSDU Technician at Withybush General Hospital ran the Newport Marathon and raised £530.00 for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services in Pembrokeshire.

Hywel Dda Health Charities offered free places for runners to fundraise for any ward, service or department. Colin ran his first park run in June 2018 to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the NHS. He enjoyed it so much he has continued to run and completed his first marathon in May 2019.

Sarah Burgess, Service Manager said:

“The Specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (S-CAMHS), would like to thank Colin for raising such a large sum of money and donating it to our service. We would like to use the money to help fund Tonic Surf. Tonic Surf gives teenagers the opportunity to undertake a surfing programme in Pembrokeshire; which runs for 10 weeks from May until July.

It has now been running successfully for a number of years, and all the young people that undertake the programme benefit from the social aspect of the programme, including team building skills.  The young people tell us that it improves their self-esteem, confidence, and helps them move forward positively with their lives. Thanks to Colin’s efforts this project will be able to continue next year.”
