- Sister Eluned Williams MBE officially opens new home
- Celebration comes as Action for Children turns 150
Action for Children proudly opened their latest children’s home in Rhuddlan on Saturday 6th July. As the charity prepares to celebrate its 150th birthday on the 9th July, a party took place at the Tan-y-Bryn home in the Rhuddlan area with games, stalls, music, afternoon tea and much more to mark the occasion.
The Rhuddlan branch of Sainsbury’s generously donated a voucher to buy food and refreshments for the event as Sister Eluned Williams MBE, who worked for Action for Children for over forty years at a variety of children’s homes around the UK, officially opened the new home.
Caroline Morris, registered manager of Wrexham’s successful Tan-y-Dre children’s home is moving to manage Tan-y-Bryn and said: ‘I am so delighted we are opening another children’s home in North Wales especially as we celebrate Action for Children’s 150th birthday and the amazing work we have done for children and families since we started in 1869.

‘At Tan-y-Dre we achieved amazing outcomes for the children who have faced really challenging issues in their young lives. We create a home from home with the children’s needs front and centre of everything we do. The children respond wonderfully well to this approach and we blend seamlessly into the community. I am looking forward to establishing Tan-y-Bryn as a safe and loving home for a new set of children and helping them maximise their potential and changing their lives.’
Brigitte Gater, Action for Children’s national director for Wales, added: ‘With wonderful homes like Tan-y-Dre, we are changing the story around children’s homes and showing that being a looked after child can be a positively transformative experience for a young person. The passion and commitment our staff show for our young people every single day is what drives the success of our children’s homes. I’m really excited for Caroline and the team that they get to open Tan-y-Bryn on such a momentous milestone for the charity.’
