East Newport Cycle Speedway Club has been officially announced as a WINNER of the Wall’s Collectors’ Club, securing itself a whopping £1,000 CASH PRIZE, which it will use to maintain its venue.
From choir groups to football teams, the competition saw 202 community clubs across the UK battle it out in a bid to secure one of the top five spots on the Wall’s Collectors’ Club leader board.
East Newport Cycle Speedway Club is a small community cycling club, who race on an outdoor track. They are a little different to the average cycling club, as their bikes have no brakes or gears. The club’s ambition is to one day produce a British or world champion from one of their home-grown talented riders.
East Newport Cycle Speedway Club won alongside Cowplain Youth FC, Twirl-Versity, Aspire School of Dance and Hetton Lyons. Wall’s customers, club members, as well as friends and families, all helped to boost East Newport Cycle Speedway Club to the top by collecting points with every purchase of a Wall’s Pastry product, which they then donated to send the club soaring to the top of the leader board.
Michael Holton, Brand Marketing Manager at Addo Food Group, says: “At Addo Food Group, we are passionate about championing our local communities and it was fantastic to see so many people rallying together to show their support for these local clubs. We’ve now got five well-deserved winners and we’re really pleased that the Wall’s Collectors’ Club scheme can help keep these clubs developing and doing what they do best – bringing people together.”
Chris Wright, from the East Newport Cycle Speedway says: “We’re absolutely delighted with the outcome of the competition, it really is like winning the lottery to us. We want to thank everyone who donated points to our club and a special thanks to Wall’s Pastry for allowing us to provide our 31 members with an improved cycling venue.”
