The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will attend the 100th Royal Welsh Show to meet with exhibitors, attendees and local organisations. During the visit, Their Royal Highnesses will open a commemorative garden to celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Prince’s Investiture as The Prince of Wales, The Royal Welsh Showground, Llanelwedd, Builth Wells LD2 3SY.
Upon arrival, The Prince and The Duchess will visit a garden, which has been created by the Royal Welsh Show to mark the 50th anniversary of the Investiture of The Prince of Wales. Their Royal Highnesses will plant a tree to officially open the garden. To mark the 140th anniversary of the Anglo Zulu War, King Goodwill and Queen Pumi, The King and Queen of the Zulus, will also be present at the show. Their Royal Highnesses will meet The King and Queen before watching a short military display by members of a Zulu ‘impi’ regiment.
The Prince of Wales will then meet with farming leaders, including representatives from and beneficiaries of The Prince’s Countryside Fund. His Royal Highness will also visit the sheep and cattle rings to meet breeders of The Prince’s breed patronages and rare breeds, including the Badger Faced Welsh Mountain sheep, and Welsh Black and Dairy Shorthorn cattle.
Meanwhile The Duchess, accompanied by Queen Pumi, will meet representatives from the local Women’s Institute, Merched y Wawr, and Wales Young Farmers. The Duchess will also visit the Show’s new stables and all-weather Equine area where she unveil a plaque to officially open the area. The Duchess will then proceed to the Horse Ring where she will watch some competitions before presenting prizes.
Their Royal Highnesses will then unveil a plaque at the new Welsh Cob Stallion sculpture, designed by Robert Rattray. The sculpture is made of horseshoes from past winning horses, in addition to horseshoes, which have been donated by Her Majesty The Queen. After the plaque unveiling, The Prince and The Duchess will enter the Main Ring where the Ridden Cob classes will be taking place. Their Royal Highnesses will present prizes following the completion of the classes.
The Prince of Wales will then have the opportunity to meet with representatives of agricultural groups, including Natural Resources Wales and the Royal Forestry Society, to discuss the protection of ancient trees in Wales. Following the meeting, His Royal Highness will proceed to the Forestry Area where a number of crafts will be demonstrated, including dry stonewalling, hedge laying and stick-making.
The Duchess will visit the floral pavilion and will view a display from the National Honey Show. Her Royal Highness recently attended the Bees for Development biennial Bee Garden Party at Marlborough House. The Duchess will then proceed to the Food Hall where over 60 stallholders will display Welsh produce.
