This summer it is easier than ever to have a great family day out along the Wales Coast Path with the introduction of a new free augmented reality (AR) app.
The app has been launched to encourage local families from across Carmarthenshire to get outdoors during the summer holidays and to ensure the region’s fantastic views, glorious wildlife diversity, fascinating history and wondrous legends are brought to life using augmented reality, games and other fun features.
Locations and discoveries
In Pendine Sands the new AR app will allow walkers to use their mobile devices to enjoy exciting new experiences such as exploring ancient landscapes including the submerged forest at Marros beach, with the app providing a glimpse of the scenery as it was over 13,000 years ago.
History lovers can discover the golden sands of Pendine, with interactive games including setting your own land speed record in the iconic Blue Bird. Walkers can also learn how Pendine’s six-mile stretch of beach became the runway for Amy Johnson and Jim Mollison, in the first ever attempt to fly non-stop from Britain to the US by a married couple in 1933.
To help families enjoy the app and discover the AR locations, a series of new family-friendly walks have also been created and are accessible for free via the Wales Coast Path website. Scan the panel outside in front of Tea by the Seacafe in the centre of Pendine village and use your mobile device to join Amy Johnson on her flight to America before heading west along the seafront.
Easy to download & use
Simply download the app before you arrive and use your mobile phone to scan one of the specially created experience panels to unlock a range of interactive features and bespoke augmented reality animations. You can even share your experiences with your friends using the photo filter feature or by capturing images of you, your friends and family interacting with the fun augmented reality scenes.
First Minister Mark Drakeford said, “The Wales Coast Path is enjoyed by people from across Wales and further afield. The path is unique – no other country can boast a coastal path that stretches around its whole coastline. The 870-mile long path has much hidden history and fascinating wildlife. The new app will add to the pleasure of visiting our beautiful Welsh coast.”
Where to find it
The app is available for free via the Apple App Store (iOS devices) and Google Play (Android devices), searchable using ‘Wales Coast Path’. Download the app before arrival or whilst walking the path, to unlock content at chosen locations. The app uses GPS track location in real life and trigger bespoke augmented reality animations at different points along the Wales Coast Path.

Lansio ap newydd Llwybr Arfordir Cymru mewn pryd ar gyfer gwyliau’r haf
Yr haf hwn, mae’n haws nag erioed cael diwrnod allan gwych efo’r teulu ar hyd Llwybr Arfordir Cymru wrth i ni gyflwyno ap realiti estynedig newydd sy’n rhad ac am ddim.
Mae’r ap wedi’i lansio i annog teuluoedd lleol o bob rhan o Sir Gaerfyrddin i fynd allan yn ystod gwyliau’r haf ac i sicrhau bod golygfeydd gwych, amrywiaeth o fywyd gwyllt gogoneddus, hanes diddorol a chwedlau rhyfeddol yr ardal yn dod yn fyw drwy ddefnyddio realiti estynedig, gemau a nodweddion hwyliog eraill.
Lleoliadau a darganfyddiadau
Ar Draeth Pentywyn bydd yr ap newydd yn galluogi cerddwyr i ddefnyddio eu dyfeisiau symudol i fwynhau profiadau newydd cyffrous fel archwilio tirweddau hynafol gan gynnwys y goedwig danddwr ar draeth Marros, gyda’r ap yn rhoi cipolwg ar yr fel yr oedd dros 13,000 mlynedd yn ôl.
Gall y rhai sy’n ymddiddori mewn hanes ddarganfod tywod euraidd Pentywyn, gyda gemau rhyngweithiol gan cynnwys gosod eich record cyflymder tir eich hun yn y Blue Birdeiconig. Gall cerddwyr hefyd ddysgu sut y daeth darn chwe milltir o draeth Pentywyn yn rhedfa i Amy Johnson a Jim Mollison, yn yr ymgais gyntaf erioed i hedfan yn ddi-stop o Brydain i’r Unol Daleithiau gan gwpl priod yn 1933.
Er mwyn helpu teuluoedd i fwynhau’r ap a darganfod y lleoliadau realiti estynedig, mae cyfres o deithiau cerdded teuluol newydd hefyd wedi’u creu ac mae modd eu gweld am ddim drwy wefan Llwybr Arfordir Cymru. Sganiwch y panel tu allan i gaffi Tea by the Seayng nghanol pentref Pentywyn a defnyddiwch eich dyfais symudol i ymuno ag Amy Johnson ar ei hediad i America cyn troi i’r gorllewin ar hyd glan y môr.
Hawdd i’w lawrlwytho a’i ddefnyddio
Lawrlwythwch yr ap cyn i chi gyrraedd a defnyddiwch eich ffôn symudol i sganio un o’r paneli profiad a grëwyd yn arbennig i ddatgloi amrywiaeth o nodweddion rhyngweithiol ac animeiddiadau realiti estynedig pwrpasol. Gallwch hyd yn oed rannu eich profiadau gyda’ch ffrindiau gan ddefnyddio’r nodwedd hidlo lluniau neu drwy gipio delweddau ohonoch chi, eich ffrindiau a’ch teulu yn rhyngweithio â’r golygfeydd realiti estynedig hwyliog.
Dywedodd y Prif Weinidog, Mark Drakeford, “Mae pobl o bob rhan o Gymru a thu hwnt yn mwynhau Llwybr Arfordir Cymru. Mae’r llwybr yn unigryw – does dim un wlad arall yn gallu brolio bod ganddyn nhw lwybr arfordirol sy’n ymestyn o gwmpas ei harfordir cyfan. Mae gan y llwybr 870 milltir o hyd lawer o hanes cudd a bywyd gwyllt diddorol. Bydd yr ap newydd yn ychwanegu at y pleser o ymweld ag arfordir hardd Cymru.”
Ble mae dod o hyd iddo
Mae’r ap ar gael am ddim drwy Apple App Store (dyfeisiau iOS) a Google Play (dyfeisiau Android) – chwiliwch am ‘Llwybr Arfordir Cymru’. Lawrlwythwch yr ap cyn cyrraedd neu wrth i chi gerdded y llwybr, er mwyn datgloi cynnwys mewn lleoliadau penodol.
