Vivienne Laing, the NSPCC’s policy and public affairs manager for Wales, said:
“It’s wrong that children have less protection from assault than adults. Closing this legal loophole brings Wales in line with dozens of countries and is about fairness and equality for our children.
“We are delighted that the Children, Young People and Education Committee agrees and has set out the path to a clearer, fairer legal framework which will better protect children and end their legally-sanctioned physical punishment.
“We know that bringing up children, including how to discipline them, can be challenging so the NSPCC provides support for families including face-to-face services, our Helpline and, in Wales, our Take 5 campaign which promotes positive parenting.”
