Research reveals EXACTLY how long to wait before discussing spoilers

Everybody likes to talk about their favourite movies and TV shows, but nobody wants to have the latest big twist ruined for them. Now, new research has revealed exactly how long you should wait before discussing spoilers – https://musicmagpie.co.uk/spoiler-etiquette/

According to the study, you need to wait at least 33 hours after a TV show airs before you can discuss spoilers. And when it comes to movies, you need to wait at least 10 days before discussing any spoilers.

The research, which was completed by musicMagpie, took a deeper look into our experiences with spoilers, highlighting how big of an issue they still are:

  • 52% of people have seen spoilers online
  • 8% of people have posted spoilers online
  • 34% of people have fallen out with a friend, family member or a colleague because they shared a spoiler

The study went on to reveal the lengths people are going to in order to avoid spoilers:

  • 46% of people have avoided going on social media
  • 30% have avoided talking to a friend, family member of colleague
  • 18% have avoided talking in a WhatsApp group
  • 16% have unfollowed a brand or person on social media
  • 15% have muted a WhatsApp group
  • 14% have worn headphones to block out conversations
  • 9% have deleted social media apps from their phone
  • 7% have taken a day off sick
  • 6% have worked from home
