Brynberian Community Centre in Pembrokeshire will use £100,000 to develop the community facility and enhance the opportunities for those who live in Brynberian and the surrounding communities

West Wales groups are celebrating their National Lottery win this Summer 
Community groups and charities across West Wales celebrating this summer because their grant applications to The National Lottery Community Fund were successful. Grants are made possible thanks to National Lottery players.

“We are aware of the need for work opportunities and skill development to enable disabled young people to be better prepared for the world of work or volunteering and hope that this project and the development of a social enterprise will go some way to filling this gap, ensuring they can play full and active parts in their communities.”

Brynberian Community Centre in Pembrokeshire will use £100,000 to develop the community facility and enhance the opportunities for those who live in Brynberian and the surrounding communities including Crosswell, Eglwyswrw, Newport, Nevern, Cilgwyn and Gwaun Valley. A programme of intergenerational activities will be delivered, based on community engagement and feedback, creating opportunities for social interaction and improving health and wellbeing.

Sandra Llewellyn, the Chair of Trustees at the Brynberian Community Centre said; “We are absolutely thrilled to receive this grant for our Brynberian Past, Present and Future project. The funds will enable us to provide a resource for the wellbeing of our whole community to take part in activities, celebrate and grow our cultural and natural history, and create social networks in our beautiful, rural, bilingual village. Thank you, thank you, thank you to all players of The National Lottery!”

Myaware South Wales who are based in Carmarthenshire will use the grant to hold a series of events, to help individuals diagnosed with myasthenia to gain confidence and build lasting relationships through workshops and befriending events. This grant for £9,932 will fund a regional conference, advice sessions, promotional materials, support group meetings, information packs, counsellor fees, and befriending events.

Net-Reach in Carmarthenshire will use the grant to upskill individuals who are not in employment, education or training to provide them with better career opportunities, by helping them obtain the three core GCSE qualifications. This grant for £9,750 will fund IT resources, sessional worker costs, music and craft equipment, and stationery.

Pontarddulais Cricket Club in Swansea will use the grant to carry out improvements to their community building, in order to make it more accessible for less mobile residents and individuals. This grant for £10,000 will fund urinals, electrics, decoration, and tiling and woodwork.

Rewise Foundation CIC in Swansea will use the grant to pilot a Drink Wise Think Wise alcohol and drug awareness programme for secondary schools in the surrounding area. This grant for £9,500 will fund tuition, tutor travel, resources, project management fees, administration, and evaluation costs.

St Mary’s Church Pennard in Swansea will use the grant to establish a series of sessions with local young people, helping them to address any mental health issues and encourage them to take part in positive behaviour. This grant for £9,940 will fund a youth mental health worker, supervisor costs, volunteer expenses, and resources.

Ray Ceredigion will be using £393,397 to develop their centre in Aberaeron, providing a focus on those who are most isolated to improve their overall health and wellbeing. A family centre will enable families with children aged 1-4 years to come together to build peer support and attend a programme of activities to develop their skills and experiences.

It’s a double celebration for RAY Ceredigion who also received a small grant to teach disabled young people how to cook food, which they will use to prepare meals for a local dementia support group. This grant for £9,918 will fund food ingredients, transport costs, a project worker, and an assistant.

WOW Wales One World Film Festival Ltd in Ceredigion will use the grant to bring together individuals with learning difficulties and the wider community, through events, workshops, and film screenings. This grant for £9,986 will fund equipment, coordination costs, filmmaking workshops, transport, marketing, materials, and costume maker fees.

 

Templeton Community Council will use £99,820 to extend and improve the local village hall. One large public room and a smaller room for activities will be created, the kitchen facilities will be improved, further landscaping of the outside along with improvements to the car park will be undertaken to ensure full disabled access and further storage provision will be included.

These grants are part of 48 Wales-wide worth a total of £3,329,844 of National Lottery money. The full list is available here.
