‘The All New American Diner that’s recently opened in Llanelli.’

The staff at Gateway Resort, Llanelli donned their roller boots and poodle skirts for the official opening of their all new American Diner this July! Decked out in retro 1950’s style, with checkered flooring, silver chrome tables, and coca cola red seating, it’s a step back into the classic Grease days of Danny Zuko & Sandy Olsson! Original 50’s vinyl records adorn the walls, and Elvis classics pump out of the jukebox in the corner.

The Diner offers substance as well as style, with its unique and quirky Burger menu. Adventurous cool cats can sample the ‘Sticky Pig’ (pulled pork with lashings of bbq sauce), the ‘Greek God’ (lamb, roast onion & coriander burger) or the ‘Tex Mex’ (guacamole, jalapenos, sour cream & tortillas) to name just a few. The rockin’ sockin’ milkshakes are made with scoops of real dairy ice-cream for extra thickness, and come in 3 different flavours (vanilla, chocolate or strawberry), with a choice of saucy toppings! Hot ‘Diggity’ Dogs & Classic, Cheesy or Sweet Potato Fries round off the 1950’s style menu.

The Diner is an innovative addition to the two other restaurants at Gateway Resort; The lively Barrel Bar seats up to 450 guests and is host to regular live music shows and themed party nights. The Tavern Bar is a slightly smaller, lounge style restaurant, for those seeking a quieter, more relaxed environment.

Ken Strelley, site owner, commented: “My ultimate aim is to create an ‘all under one roof’ family destination. Our existing eateries cater well for adults and young children alike. With our Kids Corner café & Arcade Room, our Indoor Pool & Soft Play Area, plus our Crazy Golf Course, Fishing Lake & Outdoor Park, we are already an all-weather family friendly resort. The new Diner offers older children an outlet to grab a burger & a shake with friends, put some tunes on the juke box, play a bit of pinball…and, as one of its kind in Llanelli, it’s also an ideal venue for family birthday or celebration meals.”

He added, “My inspiration comes from Folly Farm. They are a family run business embracing tourists and locals alike, offering something for every age group. We’re not as big as them yet, but they are certainly an attraction to aspire to!”

The American Diner is open Monday to Saturday, midday to midnight. The team at Gateway Resort won’t just be serving burgers & shakes either…Keep a look out for classic ‘drive-in’ movie nights, American pie eating contests, jiving classes, sock hops and other fun, 50’s inspired themed events! Happy Days!
