Rickie Lee Jones released her critically acclaimed new album ‘Kicks’ earlier this year, the follow up to her equally applauded ‘The Other Side of Desire’. Produced by Rickie Lee Jones with her band-mate, vibraphonist Mike Dillion, ‘Kicks’ features 10 songs of a highly infectious nature. The album spans two decades (50s-70s) of pop, rock and jazz, presenting her unique and sophisticated interpretations of songs that were pivotal to her musical journey.

Check out a fantastic live clip of ‘Nagasaki,’ the second single from ‘Kicks’.  For her version of the song, which was first performed by the Ipana Troubadours in 1928 and was most famously recorded by the Benny Goodman Quartet in 1952, Rickie Lee Jones gives the track a traditional jazz offering of tight three-part harmonies.

The winner of two Grammy awards (‘Best New Artist’ in 1979 for her self-titled debut and ‘Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album’ for ‘It’s Like This’ in 2000), Rickie is the most iconic American female singer-songwriter of her time, a woman who outlasted all her adversaries–including youth and self-destruction. Before Rickie Lee Jones, the genre of singer

songwriter was derived entirely from the folk singers of the 50’s and 60’s.  She brought jazz to the rock stage, a teenaged recklessness and a flair for drama.
