Work on the £25.2 million obstetric and neonatal facilities project at Glangwili Hospital is progressing well having reached some key construction milestones.

This second phase of redevelopment will improve facilities for mums, babies and families at the hospital. The scheme includes high dependency cots, special care cots and parent accommodation, as well as birthing rooms and operating theatres. Plans are also in place for additional staff car parking spaces.

The plans will provide a modern environment for the delivery of obstetric and neonatal services at Glangwili, and address the urgent areas of concern highlighted in the Royal Colleges’ report into the maternity, neonatal and paediatric services provided by Hywel Dda University Health Board.

Health Board Chief Executive Steve Moore said: “We are delighted that work continues to move at pace on this project, which will significantly improve the patient experience and accommodation for families.

“We would like to thank our public and staff for their patience and understanding during the redevelopment stage while we make these improvements.”

Early August saw the staff moves from Block 9, an office area above the main entrance, to a new modular building on the site. The IT, Safeguarding and Looked after Children, Family and Child Health, and Unscheduled Care teams moved to the new building will be called Ty Nant and is located in front of Teilo Ward.

Work will now begin on remodelling in Block 9 to provide the new and additional neonatal care facilities. The current neonatal unit will move into a newly constructed unit for a temporary period this autumn, to allow redevelopment of their existing accommodation. This will be a significant improvement for staff and families until the new permanent unit is ready next year.

Disruption for staff continues to be kept to a minimum, and services for patients and their families will remain unaffected during the building work.

The scheme is due to be completed late 2020 and updates will be communicated throughout the project.

Prosiect mamolaeth gwerth miliynau o bunnau yn dechrau ffynnu

Mae’r gwaith ar y prosiect cyfleusterau obstetrig a newyddenedigol gwerth £25.2 miliwn yn Ysbyty Glangwili yn mynd rhagddo’n dda ar ôl cyrraedd rhai cerrig milltir adeiladu allweddol.

Bydd yr ail gam hwn o’r ailddatblygiad yn gwella cyfleusterau i famau, babanod a theuluoedd yn yr ysbyty. Mae’r cynllun yn cynnwys cotiau dibyniaeth uchel, cotiau gofal arbennig a llety i rieni, yn ogystal ag ystafelloedd geni a theatrau llawdriniaethau. Mae cynlluniau hefyd ar waith ar gyfer lleoedd parcio ychwanegol i staff.

Bydd y cynlluniau’n cynnig amgylchedd modern ar gyfer darparu gwasanaethau obstetrig a newyddenedigol yn Ysbyty Glangwili, ac yn mynd i’r afael â’r meysydd pryder brys a amlygwyd yn adroddiad y Colegau Brenhinol ar y gwasanaethau mamolaeth, newyddenedigol a phediatrig a ddarperir gan Fwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Hywel Dda.

Dywedodd Prif Weithredwr y Bwrdd Iechyd, Steve Moore: “Rydym yn falch iawn bod y gwaith yn parhau i symud yn gyflym ar y prosiect hwn, prosiect a fydd yn sicrhau gwelliant sylweddol o ran profiad y claf a llety i deuluoedd.

“Hoffem ddiolch i’n cyhoedd a’n staff am eu hamynedd a’u dealltwriaeth yn ystod y cam ailddatblygu, wrth i’r gwelliannau hyn fynd rhagddynt.”

Yn gynnar ym mis Awst, symudodd y staff o Floc 9, sef ardal swyddfa uwchben y brif fynedfa, i adeilad modiwlar newydd ar y safle. Symudodd y timau TG, Diogelu Plant a Phlant sy’n Derbyn Gofal, Iechyd Teuluoedd a Phlant, a Gofal Heb ei Drefnu i’r adeilad newydd, a fydd yn cael ei alw’n Tŷ Nant, ac sydd wedi’i leoli o flaen Ward Teilo.

Bydd gwaith yn dechrau ‘nawr ar yr ailfodelu ym Mloc 9 i ddarparu’r cyfleusterau gofal newyddenedigol ychwanegol a newydd. Bydd yr uned newyddenedigol bresennol yn symud am gyfnod dros dro yr hydref hwn i uned sydd newydd gael ei hadeiladu, er mwyn i’w llety presennol gael ei ailddatblygu. Bydd hyn yn welliant sylweddol i staff a theuluoedd hyd nes bydd yr uned barhaol newydd yn barod y flwyddyn nesaf.

Mae’r gwaith yn tarfu cyn lleied â phosibl ar y staff o hyd, ac nid effeithir ar y gwasanaethau i gleifion a’u teuluoedd yn ystod y gwaith adeiladu.

Disgwylir i’r cynllun gael ei gwblhau ddiwedd 2020, a bydd yr wybodaeth ddiweddaraf yn cael ei rhannu trwy gydol y prosiect.
