A lucky young lad has enjoyed the full VIP treatment at Asda’s store in Tonypandy thanks to the store’s community champion Karen Thomas.
Dylan Edwards, (13) from Clydach Vale who has autism, had a wonderful time as he helped out on the checkouts, made pizza and tidied up clothes in George.
Karen met Dylan through Action for Children’s Rhondda Family Support service who she has worked with previously on the green token and Christmas toy appeals. Karen said: “He was an absolute joy to have with us. He loved the visit, especially the checkouts. We gave him a toy Asda truck which he said was the best thing ever.”
His mum Bethan thanked Asda and Karen for organising the visit and said: “Dylan was in his element as he loves going shopping to Asda. He really enjoyed his tour and getting a lanyard!”
Rhondda Family Support provides children and young people with disabilities, from birth to 18 years of age. The service provides opportunities to enjoy activities of their choice whilst being supported to develop their social, communication and practical life skills. Dylan also attends the National Autistic Society in Rhondda Cynon Taf.
Rhondda Family Support’s service coordinator, Vicky Thomas added: “It was a wonderful thing for Karen to do as Dylan’s a great kid who thrives in our environment. He loves being around people and his love of shopping at Asda is well known so he was totally thrilled to be a VIP at his favourite store.”
