The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Trust is looking for help from the public to create more habitats for pollinators. The aim is to raise £10,000 to help protect and restore the existing meadows in the National Park, and to work with landowners to create new ones.

During the last 75 years the UK has lost over 95% of its wildflower meadows, turning them into one of our rarest habitats. It has also resulted in fewer places for flowers, insects and other wildlife to grow and thrive.

Director of the Trust, Jessica Morgan, said: “What many don’t realise is that the plight of pollinators has a direct impact on the food we eat. As well as adding colour to the landscape, wildflower meadows are crucial habitats for insects, which play an essential role in pollinating fruits and vegetables.

“Donating just £5 could help conserve over 400 square metres of meadow in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park for a year.”

Donations of £5 can be made by texting ‘MOREMEADOWS’ to 70085. Texts will be charged at your standard rate. Alternatively donations can be made by calling 01646 624808 and referencing the Make More Meadows appeal, or online at www.pembrokeshirecoasttrust.wales.

The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Trust was set up to promote the conservation of the National Park’s stunning landscape and wildlife, enhance its unique and distinctive attributes as well as safeguarding its exceptional qualities for future generations.
