How do you feel about a potential election right now?

A general election could be just round the corner. Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said he’ll push for the UK to go to the polls in order to break the Brexit deadlock. [1] Chances are it could happen much sooner than we think.

We’ll all feel differently about the prospect of a general election. But no matter where you stand, together we need to shape a bold and ambitious plan for what 38 Degrees might do. It’ll mean we’ll be ready to jump into action as soon as the election’s called.

A general election has been on the cards for months. We don’t know if it’s going to be next month or next year. [1] But one thing’s for certain, it’s an election that will define our country for generations – from Brexit to the climate crisis. It’s really all to play for. [2]

Every one of us will feel differently about the prospect of a general election. You might be worried. You might feel excited. It might not have even crossed your mind. Whatever we’re feeling, we need to be ready to jump into action whenever it’s called. Because we’ll be up against people with deep pockets and a lot of power. [3]

Unlike other organisations, 38 Degrees doesn’t make big decisions with a few staff alone in an office. Together we can shape an ambitious and bold plan for what 38 Degrees might do in a general election. But to do that, all of us need to get involved and share our thoughts.

The weeks and months ahead are set to be more uncertain, and more critical than any that have gone before. [4] Right now Boris Johnson doesn’t have a majority in Parliament. [5] In practice it means he can’t push the decisions and legislation he wants through Parliament. And a general election is one way to break the deadlock.

But nothing is decided yet – and the next election could go any way. [6] That means we have a bigger chance to shape how it goes, who gets to vote, and whether we get to have our say.
