New tech for a new kind of census

The next census in England and Wales will be digital first and to make that happen the Office for National Statistics has developed new technology.

Ceredigion is currently helping to test the new systems and processes in a census rehearsal. This will help the ONS prepare for the volumes of responses and questions they can expect in 2021.

The census helps the country plan vital public services, including schools, GP surgeries and hospitals, so a rehearsal is an important part of the preparations.

Ceredigion provides an ideal environment for ONS to work out how to tackle some of the operational challenges ahead of the big event in 2021.

New this year, the field staff are using an app that lets them upload their work on the go, to improve visits to households who are yet to respond and give the right support.

For staff, this means a more efficient working day, with slick communication and more time to help the people who need it.

The census field staff, who all carry ID to show they are genuine, are out and about in Ceredigion now encouraging people to complete their questionnaires.

Technoleg newydd ar gyfer math newydd o gyfrifiad

Bydd y cyfrifiad nesaf yng Nghymru a Lloegr yn ddigidol yn gyntaf ac er mwyn gwneud hynny mae’r Swyddfa Ystadegau Gwladol wedi datblygu technoleg newydd.

Mae trigolion Ceredigion wrthi’n helpu i brofi’r systemau a’r prosesau newydd yn ymarfer y cyfrifiad ar hyn o bryd. Bydd hyn yn helpu’r Swyddfa Ystadegau Gwladol i baratoi ar gyfer y symiau mawr o ymatebion a chwestiynau y gall eu disgwyl yn 2021.

Mae’r cyfrifiad yn helpu’r wlad i gynllunio gwasanaethau cyhoeddus hanfodol, gan gynnwys ysgolion, meddygfeydd ac ysbytai, felly mae ymarfer yn rhan bwysig o’r paratoadau.

Mae Ceredigion yn darparu amgylchedd delfrydol er mwyn i SYG nodi sut i fynd i’r afael â rhai o’r heriau gweithredol cyn y digwyddiad mawr yn 2021.

Yn newydd eleni, mae’r staff maes yn defnyddio ap sy’n caniatáu iddynt lanlwytho eu gwaith wrth fynd, er mwyn gwella ymweliadau â chartrefi nad ydynt wedi ymateb eto a rhoi’r cymorth cywir.

Ar gyfer y staff, mae hyn yn golygu diwrnod gwaith mwy effeithlon, gyda chyfathrebu llyfn a mwy o amser i helpu’r bobl sydd angen cymorth.

Mae staff maes y cyfrifiad, sydd â chardiau adnabod i ddangos eu bod yn swyddogion go iawn, allan yn gweithio yng Ngheredigion nawr yn annog pobl i gwblhau eu holiaduron.
