Llandeilo’s Tywi Centre is celebrating its 10th anniversary this month.
To mark the milestone, three council staff are lacing up their trainers for a special 10-mile run through the Tywi Valley.
Nell Hellier, senior built heritage officer, Helena Burke, heritage skills and projects officer, and Ruth Rees, of the Heritage Construction in Wales project, will be running one mile for each of the 10 years to mark the anniversary of the opening of the traditional building skills training and education centre at Dinefwr Farm.
The route will take in some of the area’s historic landmarks, many of which have been supported by the centre over the years.
Helena Burke said: “We have been racking our brains to think how we can celebrate the anniversary and have decided that a run through the valley, taking in a wealth of historic buildings and landscapes, would be a perfect way to celebrate.”
Over the last decade, the centre has built up a UK-wide reputation for being experts in supporting the protection of historic buildings of Wales and has been delivering training, education and information with our experienced and knowledgeable tutors to custodians of old, pre-1919 buildings across the nation.
The route will begin at Dryslwyn Castle, then meanders through the villages of Cwrt Henri and Llangathen, through Dinefwr Park to Dinefwr Castle, around the historic town of Llandeilo and will end at the Tywi Centre for a well-deserved cup of tea and slice of anniversary cake.
Ruth Rees said: “The route takes in four scheduled ancient monuments (Grongar Hill, Dinefwr Park Roman Forts, Dinefwr Castle and Dryslwyn Castle), two conservation areas (Llangathen and Llandeilo), the magnificent estates of Newton House, Cwrt Henri and Aberglasney and over 30 listed structures, including medieval farm houses, churches, bridges, village halls, shops and houses so it is very in keeping with the historic buildings the Twyi Centre supports.”
The run and anniversary celebration takes place on Friday, November 29.
