Christmas in Carmarthenshire: All the Major Events for 2019

All that’s happening in Carmarthenshire to help kick start the feeling of Christmas?

Now that the nights are drawing in and it’s getting colder, our thought are turning to Christmas.

As usual there will be lots of events being held in Carmarthenshire  as we head towards Christmas Day itself to get you into the feeling of Christmas.

Below are a few dates and times for your diary: .

LLANELLI CHRISTMAS CARNIVAL

When and Where: Carnival will proceed at approximately 4pm to 9pm on Friday, November 22  The parade will begin at Festival Fields and head into the Town Centre.

Events building up to the Carnival during the Day include.
10am Take part in the Christmas treasure hunt at Llanelli Library
12pm Cowell Street will closed for fun fair rides
4pm Big, small and scary Fun fair rides open with lots of side stalls plus selection of hot and cold refreshments and Street entertainment (various locations)
5pm Live entertainment and music begins at main stage by Llanelli town Hall
5.45pm Road closures in place for Church Street and side streets
6.15pm Carnival Parade leaves Festival Fields, Sandy Road
6.40pm Presentation to Christmas lights design winners (Main Stage)
6.45pm The BIG Christmas lights switch-on by the, the Chair of Llanelli Rural Council, Mayor of Llanelli Town Council and the Chair of Carmarthenshire County Council
7pm Arrival of carnival parade in Town Hall area Kindly organised by Llanelli Round Table 7.40pm Spectacular Firework Display commences (Town Hall Gardens)
8pm Outdoor market closes for the evening
8.15pm Carnival parade prize presentation (Main Stage)

9pm Fun fair closes

The road closures will affect the town centre from 12pm.  This will begin with the closure of Cowell Street, followed by other town centre roads from 5.30pm.
Church Street, Town Hall Square and all surrounding side streets will be closed to traffic at around 5.45pm, ahead of the carnival procession.
There will be a rolling road block in place along the carnival route from 6.15pm, affecting the route into the town centre from Pwll, through the town centre, along Queen Victoria Road, Erw Road and Waunlanyrafon.
Traffic is likely to be  affected until around 8pm.
Llanelli’s multi-storey car park will be open until 10pm.
Santa Run

When and where : Sunday, November 17 at 9am to 11am.  Llandeilo will host this year’s Santa Run for the first time and this will consist of a 5k run around the town.

Registration will be open from 9am, with the race starting at 10am.

Pembrey Christmas Fayre

When and Where : The Fayre will be held over 2 days on Saturday 30th November and Sunday 1st December, at Pembrey Country Park.

There will also be Carols, Stalls and a visit from Father Christmas.

Carmarthen Christmas Market

When and Where: Daily between Saturday, November 23 and Saturday, December 21. St Catherine’s Walk, Carmarthen

This will be the seventh year for this Christmas market and will  showcase a selection of local handmade crafts, arts, gifts and food.

Dinefwr Christmas fair

When and Where : From Friday,  22nd November  to Sunday,  24th  November at National Trust Dinefwr, Dynevor Avenue, Llandeilo.

The mansion and courtyard will be filled with treats, gifts and stalls to get you into the festive spirit.

There will be carol singers, choirs and brass bands on hand during the three-day event and Father Christmas will even be paying a visit and you can even enjoy a luxury hot chocolate or a glass of mulled wine

St Clears Christmas Lights

When and where : Monday November 25th, between 4.30pm and 7.30pm  in St Clears

There will be a visit from Father Christmas  as the Christmas lights  are switched on.  There will also be a children’s treasure hunt, stalls, a choir and carols around the Christmas tree.

Reindeer Parade

When and Where  On Saturday, December 7th from 12pm in Llanelli Town Centre

Father Christmas and his Reindeer will parade in the centre of Llanelli with the parade beginning from the Ffwrnes theatre and head towards the Spring Gardens, there you will be able to get closer to the reindeers.

There will also be live music and a demonstration of Ice Sculpting in Stepney Square following the parade.

Christmas Pantomime

When and  where : Carmarthen from December 11th to 15th in and Llanelli from December 18th to 24th. In Carmarthen the performances will be at the Lyric Theatre, in Llanelli the shows will be at Ffwrnes.

This year’s pantomime will be Cinderella and it promises laugh out loud comedy, stunning scenery and a magnificent cast.

Carmarthen Winter Wonderland

When and Where : November 22th to January 5th at Carmarthen Park, SA31 3AX

Carmarthen Winter Wonderland, the only one of its kind west of Swansea, will happen once again and will include ice skating, funfair rides, hot food and a Christmas market can all be expected.

There will also be new attractions this year including a giant sky swing and an ice bar.

Carmarthen Christmas lights

When and Where: Guildhall Square, Carmarthen 6pm on Friday, November 22

The Christmas lights will be switched coinciding with the opening of Winter Wonderland this year. There will be lots  of festive entertainment as Father Christmas on his sleigh arrived to see the lights switched on.

Ammanford Christmas lights

When and Where: Ammanford Town Centre,  3pm to 7pm on Saturday, November 30

Ammanford streets will be ready for the annual Christmas lights switch on in the town centre.

St Catherine’s Walk Christmas lights

When and Where: St Catherine’s Walk, Carmarthen, Saturday, November 23 at 2pm to 6pm

Christmas lights will be switched on at St Catherine’s Walk too and there will be lots of family entertainment throughout the day prior to the being lights are switched on at 5.30pm.
