Lee Waters, Assembly Member for Llanelli and Deputy Minister for Economy and Transport in the Welsh Government, has announced £3 million to improve the M4 motorway junction in Hendy.

Traffic jams and congestion have been an issue here for many years, and residents regularly complain about the impact on their journeys and the safety of the junction. New signals will now be installed at the junction and lights will be reconfigured to ease traffic flow on the M4 and A4138.

Nia Griffith, Labour’s parliamentary candidate for the Llanelli constituency, said: “This is great news for residents in Hendy and the surrounding areas, who have been demanding improvements to this junction for many years.

“With this much needed funding from Welsh Government, we can finally bring an end to the frustrating and dangerous tailbacks here. Many thanks to my colleague Lee Waters AM for giving this much needed investment the go ahead.”

During Assembly questions, Lee Waters AM said that the Welsh Government plans to spend nearly £3million on improving the junction.

Mr Waters said, “I’m really pleased we’ve been able to bring forward improvements to the Hendy junction as part of a package to boost the economy in response to Brexit.”

“The Welsh Government want to do even more to update infrastructure right across Wales. If we elect a Labour Government in Westminster we can bring an end to years of austerity cuts and do even more to boost the economy and jobs.”
