AM SUPPORTS RAISING AWARENESS OF ROAD SAFETY ISSUES

Neil Hamilton, AM for Mid & West Wales, and Leader of UKIP Wales is calling on his constituents to help make our roads safer and reduce the number of accidents.

Mr Hamilton is supporting Road Safety Week, the UK’s biggest road safety event, which runs from November 18-24.

He said:

“I fully support any initiatives which raise awareness of safety on our roads both for drivers and pedestrians.

“Figures show that every 20 minutes, someone is killed or seriously injured on a British road and each of these tragedies is preventable. This number is far too high and we need to do whatever we can to improve this.

“The annual Road Safety week is co-ordinated by Brake the road safety charity and aims to inspire thousands of schools, organisations and communities to take action on road safety and promote life-saving messages during the Week and beyond.

“I am pleased to see councils and schools all over my Region organising events. For example in Carmarthenshire, the council’s road safety team has organised many different things including walk to school initiatives, Kerbcraft – child pedestrian training, and training on what to do if you are first on the scene to a motorcycle collision.

“It is vitally important for us all to ‘Step up for Safe Streets’ and do our bit for a safe and healthy future.”

This Road Safety Week organisers want everyone to ‘Step up for Safe Streets’ and learn more about design-led solutions which will allow us all to get around in safe and healthy ways, every day.

They want to encourage safe and healthy journeys and for everyone to step up and play a part in the celebration of safe system solutions and the creation of a safe and healthy future

From safety technology in vehicles, to speed limits that reflect the safety of the roads, we can all step up to learn about, shout about and celebrate these proven solutions.

Healthy journeys are important to help keep us healthy, fit and happy and we need to make sure that choosing to walk or cycle doesn’t put us at increased risk and that the air we breathe on our journeys is clean.

To help improve safety organisers are calling for us all to step up by using roads safely, minimising vehicle use and making sure policies and procedures are safe system solutions.
