Headlands shines at Bright Sparks awards

• Penarth school wins Best Children’s Home at Bright Sparks ceremony
• Award follows recent Estyn excellence accolade

Action for Children’s children’s residential home at Headlands School has won the Best Children’s Home accolade at the 13th annual Bright Sparks awards ceremony at County Hall in Cardiff.

The annual event brings together young care leavers and looked after children to celebrate the achievements they have made throughout the year. It also recognises agencies, organisations and services who have shown particular support for looked after children or care leavers.

Ceri Gulwell, registered manager for Headlands Residential Children’s Home, said: ‘We are thrilled to win this award in a very strong field. We have recently won prestigious awards for our all-round educational excellence so to win Best Children’s Home shines a light on the high-quality accommodation we also provide 365 days a year.

‘We go the extra mile to ensure a home from home setting with expert support for children and young people who face significant challenges in their young lives. Headlands School is an independent special school that offers day and residential placements for boys and girls aged 7 to 19 who have difficulty learning as a result of early trauma, complex emotional and social issues, Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC) and Asperger’s Syndrome.
