Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service have attended two property fires in the past 24 hours. One was caused by an unattended candle and the other by an unattended open fire.
Will Bowen, Home Safety Manager said: “We urge you to be vigilant, especially this time of year when candles and open fires will be used more regularly. If you are going to use a candle or have an open fire, please follow the below safety points.”
Candles
- If you’re going out, put it out. Never leave lit candles unattended. Put burning candles out when you leave the room, and make sure they’re out completely at night.
- Keep them out of the reach of children who may want to play with them and out of the reach of any animals who may knock them over
- Don’t lean across candles – you could set fire to your clothes
Open fires
- Always use a suitable fire guard when having an open fire and don’t leave it unattended.
- Keep flammable items at least 1 meter away from an open fire or log burner
- Do not overload a fire with wood or coal. Adding small amounts of fuel regularly is safer.
- Make sure that everyone in your home knows what to do if a fire should occur– practice your escape route
- Always have working smoke alarms fitted throughout your home and test them regularly

Mae Gwasanaeth Tân ac Achub Canolbarth a Gorllewin Cymru wedi ymateb i ddau dân mewn cartrefi yn ystod y 24 awr ddiwethaf. Achoswyd un gan gannwyll heb neb yn cadw llygad arni a’r llall gan dân agored heb neb yn cadw llygad arno.
Dywedodd Will Bowen, Rheolwr Diogelwch yn y Cartref: “Rydym yn eich annog i fod yn wyliadwrus, yn enwedig yr adeg hon o’r flwyddyn pan fydd canhwyllau a thanau agored yn cael eu defnyddio’n fwy rheolaidd. Os ydych yn mynd i ddefnyddio cannwyll neu gael tân agored, dilynwch y pwyntiau diogelwch isod.”
Canhwyllau
- Os ydych yn mynd allan, diffoddwch nhw. Peidiwch byth â gadael canhwyllau sydd ynghyn heb neb yn cadw llygad arnynt. Diffoddwch ganhwyllau sydd ynghyn pan fyddwch yn gadael yr ystafell, a gofalwch eu bod wedi eu diffodd yn llwyr yn y nos.
- Cadwch nhw allan o gyrraedd plant a allai fod am chwarae â nhw, ac allan o gyrraedd unrhyw anifeiliaid a allai eu taro drosodd.
- Peidiwch â phwyso ar draws canhwyllau – gallech roi eich dillad ar dân.
Tanau agored
- Defnyddiwch gard tân addas bob amser pan fydd gennych dân agored a pheidiwch â’i adael heb neb yn cadw llygad arno.
- Cadwch eitemau fflamadwy o leiaf 1 metr i ffwrdd o dân agored neu losgwr coed.
- Peidiwch â gorlwytho tân â choed neu lo. Mae ychwanegu ychydig bach o danwydd yn rheolaidd yn fwy diogel.
- Gofalwch fod pawb yn eich cartref yn gwybod beth i’w wneud pe bai tân yn digwydd – gofalwch eich bod yn ymarfer eich llwybr dianc.
- Sicrhewch fod gennych larymau mwg sy’n gweithio wedi’u gosod trwy eich cartref, a’ch bod yn eu profi’n rheolaidd.
